It is undoubtedly true that people who live in English-speaking countries and travel more have a lot better ability in English than people who don’t. However, should these be done by people who want to learn English?
It can be generally observed that people who were born in English-speaking countries are likely to learn English faster than us. They seem to have more opportunities because they do not even have to memorize all the grammars and structures because it has been “planted on their heads” since they were little. For the people in non English-speaking countries, Indonesia for example, they have to learn English harder and longer, and still, their English cannot be the same as foreigners from English-speaking countries. For that, they may think that having a job there, speaking to the people and travelling around can be the best way to learn English.
I will not say that their opinions are wrong. Some people think if you really want to learn something, you should learn from the best and the original one and you should learn from the source. On the other hand, I would argue that to learn English or any ability you would like to learn, you only need to have one thing: motivation! It is the most important thing because you cannot learn anything without it; it is like the key to your success. Many rich people and millionaires come from poor families but with strong motivation, nothing is impossible. You just need to believe in yourself that you can do it. You can be whatever you want, and you don’t have to spend much money to learn English by going abroad. If you have the motivation, you can learn it at anytime and anywhere.
Overall, although you don’t and you can’t get a job in English-speaking countries, or even you cannot afford to go there, don’t worry. As long as you are well motivated about it, believe me, you can still learn it in many different ways.
